I want to order the materials soon… the bricks for theoutside load-bearing wall, for example.
I suggest thermal clay blocks.
They offer thermalinsulation, sound insulation, fire protection and static.
It’s a cavity wall, composed of a 12 cm-thick outer brick, 5cm thick insulation and a 10 cm thick 8-hole hollow brick.
What type of insulation do you want to use?
There’s fibre, cork, expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene, phenolicfoam, polyurethane, polyisocyanurate, rockwool and glassmineral wool.
We’d like to use glass mineral wool. It’s got manyadvantages: a long fibre and good tear strength.
It’s lightweight, resists temperatures up to 230°C and it’s noncombustible.It’sverygoodforcavitywallinsulation.
Do you buy it in rolls? Yes, there are rolls or ‘slabs’, a sort of panel.
So, the outside walls are composed of: a 12 cm thick outerbrick, glass mineral wool insulation and 10 cm thick 8-holehollow brick?
Yes, that’s right.
Good morning.

How can I help you?
Good morning, my name is Conti. I’m calling from Milan,Italy.
Can I speak to the Customer Service Department, please?
Certainly, I’ll put you through.
Good morning, Customer Service Department. Good morning, my name is Conti.
I’m calling from Milan,Italy.
I work for Studio Ferrari Associati and I’m interested in your glass mineral wool slabs for cavity walls.
Well, we’ve got three basic types: Therm Cavity SlabStandard, Therm Cavity Super, Therm Cavity Ultimate. What is their thermal conductivity?
Therm Cavity Slab Standard has a thermal conductivityranging from 0.035 to 0.037 W/mK, Therm Cavity Superhas a thermal conductivity of 0.034 W/mK and ThermCavity Ultimate has a thermal conductivity of 0.032 W/mK.
What thicknesses are available in the Therm Cavity SlabStandard?
We’ve got 150, 125, 100, 85, 75, 65 e 50 mm. I’m interested in the 100mm slab.
Well, for the 100mm slabs thermal conductivity is 0.037W/mK and in a slab 1200mm long by 455mm wide, thermal resistance is 2.70 (sqm K/W).
Do you sell the slabs individually?
No, we sell them in packs of 5, that is 2.73 square metres.
OK.
They are odourless, rot-proof, non-hygroscopic, they don’tsustain vermin and they don’t encourage the growth offungi, mould or bacteria. Right.
They’re vapour resistant, and moisture resistant with a 50yearguarantee.Formoretechnicaldetailsyoucancontact

Office.
Is that the office I need to contact for sales to Italy?
Yes, that’s right.
OK, thank you very much for your help. Goodbye…
Who is your supplier of concrete?
We prefer a local supplier, to minimize transport costs andtime.
Mr Marchi from Edilmarm is on the phone…
Yes, I’ve got his quote… er… please tell him I’m in ameeting.
No problem if you want to speak to the man…
No, it’s OK.
He’s our supplier of stone for doorsteps, window sills, step treads, etc.
What type of material do you use? Marble, usually.
There’s a very good German company, BasGran, thatspecialises in granite.
Yes, I have their quote here and Edilmarm’s quote, too.
How do they compare? Well, Edilmarm can supply lintels and doorsteps: €65,00m2 for the 20mm and €91,00m2 for the 30mmmarble.
For stairs and steps it’s €42,00m2 for 20mm and€50,00 m2 for 30mm. Prices are ex-warehouse. And BasGran?
They offer 30mm polished granite at an average price of €70,80m2, ex-works. Plus transport costs and time from Germany.
Exactly. And BasGran wants payment within 60 days.
And Edilmarm? Within 120 days.
